BenQ launch e-book platform

January 27th, 2010 · No Comments · hardware news

I can’t find an original source on this, so here is what DigiTimes had to say:

BenQ has announced the launch of eBook Taiwan, an online integrated digital content platform for e-book readers, in the Taiwan market. The company also recently launched the own-brand nReader K60 at a recommended retail price of NT$8,990 (US$281).

BenQ established eBook Taiwan through technological cooperation with eBook Japan and also cooperates with the Japan-based company the operate the platform. eBook Taiwan is an independent and open platform for local content providers to offer digital content for sale through a profit-sharing scheme, BenQ pointed out. While eBook Japan is a shareholder of eBook Taiwan, BenQ plans to invite participating content providers to also invest in the platform, BenQ noted.

In addition to downloadable digital content, eBook Taiwan provides a cloud computing-based bookcase service allowing users to manage virtual personalized libraries, BenQ pointed out. eBook Taiwan supports downloading to e-book readers of different brands via Wi-Fi. The platform provides service only for e-book readers for the time being, but will be extended to desktops, notebooks, handsets and other types of hand-held devices, BenQ noted.

The nReader K60 was announced back in November 2009.
