What publishers are doing right now – TOC

One of todays sessions at TOC was conducted by Peter Costanzo of the Perseus Books Group, an independent publisher and distributor.  PSG surveyed their publishing clients and here are some of the results:

  • ebooks, social media and direct consumer are going to be the most significant focus in 2010
  • the biggest barrier to ebook entry is devices lack of capabilities 43%, and the second biggest is piracy 37%
  • most publishers (43%) plan to release e and p at same time, and 30% wait and see
  • %30 of publishers support all formats, and 40% only support PDF, ( epub is third at 20%)
  • 45% of respondent think piracy is a fairly small problem or are unconcerned
  • only 25% have decided they like the agency model at 70
  • 41% don’t like fixed pricing

books will never work in a digital format.
