B&N has been awful quiet lately about when they are going to release new versions of their eReader app. Ever since the Nook was announced, we’ve been waiting for B&N to update the eReader app for Blackberry, Android, etc, so we could get the latest features (Epub support, for example).
So why 24 March? Because that is when T-Mobile will start selling the HTC HD2 in the US. The HD2 phone ships with the newest version of the B&N eReader app. In fact, you can find already hacked copies of the new firmware online. If you look hard enough, you can even find an unauthorized version of the app that some industrious hacker pulled from the firmware.
This is probably wishful thinking, but B&N might also release the updated app for other OSes.

This comes just in time for my phone upgrade to the HTC Touch Pro 2. Maybe Amazon will finally get on the stick and provide a Kindle app for Windows mobile too…
The B&N eBook reader app is out: http://www.mobilitydigest.com/barnes-nobles-ereader-is-liveand-sweet/ It was loaded on the HD2 and then extracted (by me:)) and posted on XDA. It works for WVGA device like the Touch po 2.
I’ve got a good story on this one. Recently I got that extracted .cab file and now have the BN reader on my WM 6.5 Sprint Touch Pro2. Great!
However………
I managed to get some free e-books and they were read from my TP2. Furthermore, I purchased another title through the bn.com website through a desktop computer. It shows up in my BN library and likewise on the mobile device BN library. I attempt to download it for reading, but the book is deemed not compatible to read on my Windows Mobile device. How screwed up is that??????
I talked directly to a BN representative over the phone about it, and he confirmed some titles will not be readable on WM devices….. and, the only way to find out is by trial and error.
I guess this should not be too surprising, as BN’s website does not even have an official Windows Mobile release of their e-reader.
By far the most ridiculous thing I have ever come across with a software program. How do you put a brand’s (BN) software on a platform (WM HD2), yet not make all titles accessible for that software???
Further incompetence, yet typical incompetnce, of Windows Mobile.
Perhaps y’all have come across this problem already, and this is old news, but it sure through me for a loop. Ridiculous.
Where is my iPhone when I need one?
