When I started this blog, I had planned to gather 3 or more stories about digital libraries into a single post. I’m going with only 2 this time because one is rather time sensitive.
BTW, if anyone comes across news about digital libraries, I’d like to hear about it.
In April the NCSU Libraries started loaning out 30 iPads on 4-hour loan. This has been a popular service with over 3,200 iPad checkouts in the past 8 weeks.
The NCSU Libraries has 38 eBook Readers for loan through the D. H. Hill Library’s Technology Lending program. 35 Amazon Kindles (5 Kindle DXs, 12 Kindle 2s, & 18 original Kindles) have a user-developed collection of 340 popular titles. Two Sony eBook Readers each have 100 volume Classics Libraries (Sherwood Anderson to Nathaniel Hawthorne and Henrik Ibsen to Emile Zola). All of these 37 devices can be checked out for a week.
On Thursday, June 17 from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m., Rockaway Township Library will demonstrate how eBook devices work. Learn how the devices differ and how to download free eBooks. There will be hands-on time with the devices for students after the class. The library is located at 61 Mount Hope Road. To register call 973-627-2344 or e-mail to rockawaytwplibrary@rtlibrary.org.
