iLounge is reporting that the new version of iBooks brekas the dictionary look up feature. This problem appears to only be affecting ebooks that weren’t purchased from the iBookstore. If you’ve converted ebooks using calibre (or bought ebooks elsewhere) then you might encounter this bug.
iLounge also has instructions on how to fix it. Unfortunately they aren’t recommending my solution: don’t use iBooks.

There are many problems with iBooks 1.1, but breaking the dictionary is not one of them. This dictionary problem is due to Calibre specifying an undefined language, and thus, and rightly so, iBooks doesn’t know what dictionary to look up the words in.
I’m going to have to disagree with you on this one. Is UND a valid option for language? (I’m actually not sure) If it is then the iBooks programmers should have planned for it.
From what I’ve heard on MobileRead, Apple are insisting on a particularly rigid Epub spec. They don’t appear to have considered how sloppy some epub files can be (and still work).
