TechCrunch are reporting that Research In Motion (makers of the Blackberry) have bought the rights to www.blackpad.com.
Unless someone at Research In Motion is taking the time to screw with all of us, it looks like we might have an official name for their long-rumored BlackBerry tablet project: BlackPad.
Word of the name comes not from a disgruntled employee, nor from a prototype left at a bar; this one’s straight out of a good ol’ fashion WHOIS lookup on a domain. According to registration records, RIM purchased BlackPad.com just days ago.
I don’t think RIM are going to name their tablet the Blackpad. It just sounds too different from their existing product, the Blackberry. I don’t know what they will name the tablet, but I can point out that RIM have been using word names for a while now. They might use Blackberry Tablet, but they are almost as likely to give it a unique product name as in the Blackberry something.
Black pad? No.

Blackpad is better than Padberry, but they would both be pretty bad names!
