Skytex Primer – new 7″ e-reader

August 26th, 2010 by Nate Hoffelder · 4 Comments · hardware news

Do you remember how I said we’d see a bunch more Kindle clones by the end of the year? This one doesn’t have a full keyboard so I won’t add it to the list.

The Skytex Primer is based on your standard 7″ 800×480 LCD screen. It has a 400 MHz CPU, 2 GB Flash, SDHC card slot, FM Radio, microphone, and speaker. There’s no Wifi or touchscreen, though.

According to the press release, the retail price will be $99.

Sounds like a great ebook! Can I replace the battery or does it have to be sent in?

I am soooooo disappointed with this Primer! Purchased one…after 1 month perfect usage (I always follow instructions for devices, specially with battery charging). The device went dead. After charging over and over and over, the screen would show 1/2 black, 1/2 grey when plugged. Lost everything! So I returned it to Futureshop where I live in Canada, they gave me another one. Guess what? The earphone jack was not operational!!! Do they have any kind of Quality controls and program in this factory? I really wonder.

Do I have to wait for the Primer touch or the Skypad ALpha to come out some day over the rainbow as they are not able to indicate either when these will be available and if Futureshop
    will stock them.

Highly frustrating for such a promissing and versatile product!
