Keith Fahlgren just announced a new update the the browser based Ibis Reader. You”l now be able to see the covers of the ebooks in your library. Ibis Reader was also updated so it now supports the new cover image rules from the ODPS 1.0 standard. Personally, I’d rather have the images appear when I [...]

On making Kindle ebooks with inDesign
September 30th, 2010 · 1 Comment · software reviews
Earleir today I posted the announcement for a new plug-in for Adobe inDesign (it lets you make Kindle ebooks). I don’t have inDesign, so I can’t test it myself. But I know a number of people on Twitter who do have it, and they tweeted first hand reports.
Spanish ebookstore Leqtor to launch iPad app
September 30th, 2010 · No Comments · ebookstore news
Liz Castro pointed me at a story on elPeriodico.com. Leqtor, an ebookstore with titles in Castilian and Catalan, announced yesterday that they will launch an iPad app on 15 October. The app will support in app purchases as well as all ebooks previously purchased from Leqtor, but it’s not clear yet of it will support [...]
First look at the Sharper Image Literati (it cleared the FCC)
September 30th, 2010 · 2 Comments · hardware news
And quite coincidentally, my review unit arrived today. It looks really neat, but I just barely got a chance to pick it up. I can’t say anything yet. I’m having some technical difficulties at the moment, so I’m going to suggest that you take a look at the external and internal photos on the FCC [...]
Review: Ectaco Jetbook Mini (video)
September 30th, 2010 · 3 Comments · hardware reviews, video
I got the Jetbook Mini just over a week ago, and I have to say it was a lot of fun. I was ready to write the review after only a few days (it’s basic e-reader), but I held it because Ectaco promised a firmware update (it came with a pre-release firmware). I’m not sure [...]
Adobe InDesign can now make Kindle ebooks
September 30th, 2010 · 5 Comments · Amazon
Just a second while I check to see if hell froze over. Kidding aside, this is actually good news. Amazon just announced on one of the Kindle blogs that they have released a plug in for in Design. Once you download and install it, you can generate a Kindle ebook from an .indd file. Having [...]
Easypress Technologies selected as preferred Epub conversion service for Association of Canadian Publishers
September 30th, 2010 · No Comments · press release
I’ve met these fellows once or twice. Easypress is based in the UK, and their primary product is a web based Epub conversion service. It’s slick, but it’s always been out of my price range. Then again, for personal needs I’m content with the sloppy Epubs i make with calibre. Easypress, on the other hand, [...]

Margaret Atwood on ebooks (video)
September 30th, 2010 · 3 Comments · interview, video
The Big Think shot this short video of Margaret Atwood. They only ask her 3 questions, but I think it’s worth a listen. She is really interesting person to listen to and read. You should go find her on Twitter. There’s a transcript over on The Big Think if you can’t see the video. Also, [...]
Kobo to be preloaded on the BlackBerry Playbook
September 30th, 2010 · No Comments · press release
I’m not even sure this qualifies as news. I pretty much assumed that Kobo’s reading app would come preloaded on all future BlackBerry devices after last week’s announcement that Kobo would be using BB Messenger Service. There is a demo video, though:
