What’s really interesting about this is that I can only find mentions of 2 of the tablets for the US and European markets. On Tuesday Viewsonic announced 3 new tablets in 5″, 7″, and 10″ for the Russian market. We’ve of course seen the Viewpad 7 and Viewpad 10 before, but I don’t think they [...]

Notescraper exports your Kindle notes into Evernote
September 30th, 2010 · 9 Comments · software news
One e-reader feature that’s always been important to me is note taking, and more importantly getting the notes off the e-reader. I found a new way to do that with the Kindle. I just came across an app called Notescraper. It only works on a Mac, unfortunately, so I haven’t tried it. But the good [...]
Google Reader has gone nuts
September 29th, 2010 · 4 Comments · Uncategorized
I just saw the strangest error wile using Google Reader: It’s supposed to say Aluratek Libre. That’s not a mistake on my part. Google Reader did this on its own. Weird, huh? My guess is that someone at Google is playing a joke.
First Real hands on of the Sharper Image Literati (NYTimes)
September 29th, 2010 · 2 Comments · hardware reviews
The very first in depth of the Literati was posted yesterday in the New York Times. If you’re wondering why I didn’t get it first, well, as great as I am I’m not the NYTimes. The reviewer had some fairly good insights into the design of the Literati: To turn the page, you use left [...]
Weltbild to sell Aluratek Libre
September 29th, 2010 · No Comments · hardware news
There’s this about a turbulent market: the smart thrive. Aluratek is a small consumer electronics company based in California. It’s an okay e-reader, but its best value was [...]

Calvin Reid over at Publisher’s Weekly posted a follow up article this morning where he contact KNFB (developer of Blio) and asked them to explain some of the details of yesterday’s debacle. One comment made by Peter Chapman, the KNFB spokesman, caught my eye. He said that Feedbooks knew it was being included in Blio [...]

More Fail for Blio – accessibility for the visually impaired
September 29th, 2010 · 1 Comment · software reviews
Blio was launched yesterday, and I of course wrote a review. One detail I skipped in the review was the lack of promised support for the disabled. I don’t have the background knowledge to cover it adequately, and I was hoping to find a blog somewhere on the web discussing the lack. Well, one commenter [...]

September 29th, 2010 · 9 Comments · opinion
So Kobo announced their new e-reader today, and I bet they’re hoping everyone will focus on the fact that the new Kobo Wifi is offered at $139, the same price as the Nook Wifi and Kindle Wifi. It cost too much. I wasn’t awake enough when I wrote about the press release to comment on [...]
