Samsung must really be planning to push the ebook aspect. You might recall that the Galaxy Tab ships with a Kobo app. Well, Kobo might be a viable solution for English language ebooks, but they haven’t even touched the Japanese language market yet. I wonder what other ebookstores Samsung will partner with? From Trading Markets:

I want to bring everyone’s attention to the new banners, please. It’s something I’m trying out and I would appreciate feedback. What you’re looking at (in the banner) is a word cloud (I made 4, actually). You can create a word cloud by drawing up a list of words and then using either wordle or [...]
Intel AppUp Store update: I found a security hole
September 26th, 2010 · No Comments · software reviews
You might recall my post from Friday about my attempts to download games for AppUp and how intel’s DRM kept blocking me from playing the free games. The DRM is still broken (when I break something I really break it), and they’re going to hand the case off to a specialist on Monday.

- to envision us approaching and pounding on this door, increasingly hard, pounding and pounding, not just wanting admission but needing it; we don’t know what it is but we can feel it, this total desperation to enter, pounding and ramming and kicking. that, finally, the door opens…and it opens outward – we’ve been inside [...]
Did you notice what was missing from the Kindle 4 Android update?
September 26th, 2010 · 1 Comment · opinion
A few days ago Amazon released an updated version of their Kindle app for Android. They added a number of really neat annotation and collaboration features, but there was one in particular that they left out. It’s not that subtle, so I’m surprised that so few noticed. They didn’t add the audio and video support [...]
Update on the Overdrive reading app
September 26th, 2010 · 5 Comments · digital library, software news
I stopped by the Overdrive booth at the National Book Festival yesterday and the Overdrive folks were kind enough to show me their new app. I couldn’t shoot a video, unfortunately, because the app is still in private beta. But they are still on schedule to be released this year, with Android coming first and [...]
Asus DR-950 coming this Fall, will run Qt apps
September 25th, 2010 · 3 Comments · hardware news
TBH, I thought they had decided to pass on the design. We’ve seen a lot of new devices from Asus since this showed up in January. A new page turned up on the Qt website the other day. (I know it’s new because my search filters usually find stuff in the first couple days after [...]

This comic is so true that it’s almost not funny. I found this on one of the blogs I follow, 1PicStory. It’s run by a Polish artist and each one is made entirely on an iPhone.
Intel AppUp is Cursed with Broken DRM
September 24th, 2010 · 2 Comments · software reviews
Intel announced their app store for netbooks last week. I would have ignored it, but B&N were supposed to have a Nook app in the store. It’s not there, actually. I went into this with a generally positive attitude. I don’t like app stores, but my main laptop is old enough that it has specs [...]
Is This Why Amazon Shuts Up?
September 24th, 2010 · 1 Comment · opinion
by Mike Cane Two posts from two different times tying together an incredible figure: How Many Kindle Books Has Amazon Sold? About 22 Million This Year If we use the ratio from the last quarter, it implies Amazon has sold around 22 million Kindle books so far this year. That’s just the equivalent of 6% [...]
