October 21st, 2010 · 3 Comments · press release

Now this is interesting. The Nook won’t be the first e-reader sold by Walmart, but it will be only the _second_ to be sold in stores (they sell about a dozen models online). I wonder what B&N did to get the shelf space? From the press release: October 21, 2010 – Barnes & Noble, Inc. [...]

Reading desk 2.0

October 21st, 2010 · 1 Comment · hardware news

The Internet Archive recently moved to a new home, and when they did they inherited several antique reading desks from the previous owners. It’s a clever way to repurpose an antique, but I really hope they didn’t cut the hole in the reading surface. The device they mounted is only temporary (it will last 3, [...]

October 20th, 2010 · 4 Comments · opinion

His ex-wife sued him for fraud! A couple weeks ago I posted about how I was scammed by Max Seybold and a company called Cherrypal. On Monday one of Max’s other victims contacted me and suggested that I check the court records for Santa Clara County (that’s where the scumbag lives). Oh, boy. You’re not [...]

New firmware out for the Amazon K3

October 20th, 2010 · No Comments · hardware news

Amazon updated the download page today with links to the v3.0.3 firmware. Once again they’re calling it an “early preview” of the next firmware, and they want you to give feed back on how well it works. I don’t know what the improvements are; I’ve installed the new firmware and TBH I haven’t noticed any [...]

I’ve just heard via Twitter and Liz Castro’s blog that the first fiction ebook with video has been uploaded to the iBookstore. The title is Awkward 2, and it was created by the indie publisher Awkward Press. It’s a collection of short stories, and the videos are rather odd. Here’s one:
