Amazon K2, Sharper Image Literati show up in after Christmas clearance sales

December 28th, 2010 by Nate Hoffelder · 6 Comments · hardware news

I came across a couple after Christmas sales today. I think one is worth getting, but not the other.

Amazon are once again selling the refurbished K2.  The current list price is $110. It comes with the standard 1 year warranty and I’m expecting them to sell out fast.

Amazon

Best Buy have put the black Sharper Image Literati on sale for $50.  I’d call that a clearance price, actually, and hopefully it means it’s been discontinued. I wouldn’t give this e-reader as a gift and I’m not interested in adding it to my collection, either.

We reviewed the black Literati in October.

My FIL asked me about the Literati. I had to have him talk to me about it enough so I remembered it. He said, “Sharper Image.” I said, “Oh, I remember. It’s crap.”

What I would like to know is how many are being returned to the stores. Whenever I was in the stores and saw people looking at it, I tried to talk them out of it. I think the price is what persuaded them. People like cheap. Also some believed that the “free” books were going to be newly released books.

I picked up the Literati for $40 before christmas. If all you want to do is read a book from point a to point b, it’s really not a bad device for the money with the latest firmware. Battery life seems to be around 6-7 hours, with no drain when off. The screen is great for night reading, and I prefer color over BW (personal preference).

It’s definately low end, but it’s really quite useable. Couple it with Calibri, and you’ve got a great cheap ereader to wet your feet with without a huge investment.
