I’ve just come across another company in Russia with plans to release their own e-reader. I’d say at this point Russia is possible the second most active e-reader market (after the US).
Gmini announced 3 new e-readers this week. One will have a Sipix screen, and the other 2 will have E-ink screens.
First up is the Gmini MagicBook M6P. This e-reader has a 6″ Pearl E-ink screen, microSD card slot, FM radio, and MP3 player. Most details are still vague, but it is supposed to support “all popular formats, including FB2, EPUB, PDF.”
It should be on the market in the next few weeks.
I know a little more about the Gmini MagicBook M61. This e-reader has a 6″ Vizplex E-ink screen, 4GB Flash storage, and a SD card slot. There’s no mention fo when this e-reader will hot the market or for how much. But I can report that the format support is extensive:
- ePUB, FB2, TXT, PDF, HTML, RTF, DOC, MOBI, ZIP
- MP3, WMA, OGG, WAV
- JPG, GIF, PNG, BMP
And finally we have Gmini’s Sipix e-reader, the MagicBook S65T. As I look at the picture, I have to say that this looks like it was designed by the same people who did the OEM Sipix e-readers for BenQ which have shown up in various places. This is probably a good design.
According to my source, it has 4GB Flash, a SD card slot, and the same format support as above. I also expect it to have a capacitive touchscreen and Wifi, but that isn’t mentioned anywhere.
