O’Reilly have been running a series of posts lately on their blog about the state of the computer book market, and yesterday they wrapped up the series with some sales figures. Yep, 88% of unit sales came from ebooks in 2010, and 79% of income ($). The rest of the series is worth reading, and [...]

February 24th, 2011 · No Comments · hardware news
by Chris Walters Hmm, this feature may have been around for a while and I’m just now noticing it, in which case I feel like an idiot. At any rate, did you know that your Kindle can connect for free to AT&T wireless hotspots without requiring any logins, checkboxes or agreement buttons? You have to [...]

All Things D are reporting that The Daily’s iPad exclusive days are numbered. The Daily is prepping an Android tablet version which should be ready by the end of June this year. I seem to recall that Rupert Murdoch had promised that The Daily would be iPad until next year, so I really have to [...]

iPad 2 coming on 2 March?
February 23rd, 2011 · No Comments · hardware news
That’s certainly what it looks like. I got the image at right from Gizmodo, and they said that it was in the invitation email. Normally I’d be cautious about the announcement, but if this really was the invite then I really think the iPad2 will be announced.

The NookColor has been hacked for some time now, and people keep finding new things to do with it. A Youtube video popped up on Reddit today. One innovative hacker is using his NC as his in-car entertainment system. The install is rather kludgy at the moment, and the cables look messy. But it works [...]
Apple’s next step after digital content
February 23rd, 2011 · 9 Comments · opinion
Everyone’s talking right now about Apple extorting a 30% cut from developers who want to sell digital content on iOS. Sony’s app was bounced, as was Readability’s app. We’ve even heard that the ebook apps are going to go away at the end of June. But have you considered what Apple’s next step will be? [...]
