Last week I posted my first open post and it seemed to go rather well. So I’m going to make a habit of the open post every Friday. (I would have posted this yesterday but I got distracted by the free Wired app and I forgot.) Got a question? Ask.

Entourage forced me to register my Pocket Edge, and other irritations
April 16th, 2011 · 16 Comments · opinion
The Entourage Pocket Edge has been on sale this past week on Amazon for half off, and I can never resist a sale. So I bought one. This is Entourage’s second, smaller dual screen netbook with 6″ E-ink screen and a 7″ LCd screen. It’s a lot smaller and light than the original and yet [...]

Franklin to drop support for the eBookMan on April 30th
April 15th, 2011 · 4 Comments · hardware news
Much to my surprise, Franklin has been quietly supporting its e-rader, the eBookMan, for the past 12 years. It will stop supporting the eBookMan by the end of April. The eBookMan was first released in 1999, and apparently the same hardware has been sold for the past 12 years. As you can see, it has [...]

A Look at B&N’s first eReader
April 15th, 2011 · 4 Comments · Blast from the Past, hardware news
Do you recall the obituary I wrote for the Ebookwise-1150? The e-reader above next to the K3 is the Rocket eBook and it’s the grandaddy of the 1150. I thought it would be interesting to show you the oldest best e-reader.

April 13th, 2011 · 14 Comments · opinion
I was downloading a pirated tv show today when I realized that yes, I’m a pirate, but I’m also part of a market niche that isn’t being filled. What’s more, I can tell you how to make money off that niche. Before I go further, let me be clear that I do buy content. I [...]
Frustration in eBookville: Will There Be a Rubicon for Publishers?
April 13th, 2011 · 6 Comments · opinion
I’m one frustrated ebooker! I recently purchased several books in hardcover (The Eichmann Trial by Deborah E. Lipstadt and Bismarck: A Life by Jonathan Steinberg), which is (supposedly) what the publishers prefer I do. But although I bought hardcover versions for my library, I would like to do the actual reading on my Sony Reader.

In search of an Android Firewall app
April 12th, 2011 · 7 Comments · Android
My experiences with the Amazon Appstore have brought home the fact that Android leaks like a sieve. We have no idea which app is doing what. It’s high time that I added a firewall to my Android tablets. But it’s easier said than done. I’ve found a bunch of firewall apps, but there’s a problem. [...]
My Book Problem
April 12th, 2011 · 2 Comments · opinion
by Warren Adler In another few weeks, I will be moving to another apartment in the same building in Manhattan where I have spent the past few years. While moving in itself is a traumatic event as everyone knows, my principal problem is books. I have a huge collection of books. In the three or [...]
