New Android reading app launched at BEA

May 26th, 2011 by Nate Hoffelder · 2 Comments · software news

Mobile Systems, a productivity app maker, are here at BEA with their new reading app,UB Reader. I first came across this on Tuesday but I didn’t cover it because I didn’t believe it was really new. It is. I can’t find that anyone has covered it before.

In fact, it’s so new that the site isn’t even done.

This is an Android app, and you can get it from the UB Reader website. It’s actually not in the Android Market yet. It’s using a proprietary form of DRM and is tied to its own ebookstore. Price are rather expensive, and the fiction and SF selection is rather thin. Right now it looks like the only publishers signed with UB Reader are technical and academic publishers.

Why mention this reader app. It appears that you can only read books that were purchased at their store. I have not proceeded beyond the register account page, so maybe I am missing something?
