Barnes & Noble announced today that they would be the exclusive seller of 15 new children’s books titles from Disney. They’re getting the ebooks, the first-ever interactive Disney Cars and Cars 2 titles, just in time for the sequel to hit theaters this Friday. B&N also got around 50 titles from HarperCollins “I Can Read”, but they’re not exclusives.
The news seems to have gotten lost in the Harry Potter excitement, but it’s still important. Barnes & Noble are now following in Amazon’s footsteps in cuting off the competition. But let’s be fair about this. The only company that B&N cut off here was Apple, and you have to admit that Apple won’t care if they signed a publisher or not. they’re too used to companies begging to work with them.
