Google now offering a free mobile version of all hosted sites

June 23rd, 2011 by Nate Hoffelder · 1 Comment · software news

Are you using Google to host a website? There’s a new feature you might want to try. Google announced today that you can now enable a free mobile version of any site they’re hosting.

It’s great that they added this, but unfortunately it only works with iOS 3.0 or above and Android v2.2+. It won’t help all users.

Does anyone know what was added in iOS3 and Froyo that weren’t in the previous versions?

Right, Nate. I was hoping it would work with the Kindle since, as a Blogger.com person I was able to enable the mobile formatting, but the Kindle reads the pages in normal mode nevertheless.

It seems they could put in code to recognize a Kindle in use and supply the mobile version and I’ve written to recommend it in their requested-feedback section.
