The rumor of the new Sony Readers has been pressing on me this week, and tonight I finally did an item by item search of the FCC database. I looked at everything Sony submitted in the past couple months, but I didn’t find an ebook reader (or even a hint of one).
But I did find the new Sony Dash. I actually have nothing on the device, not even a label or the cover letter. The FCC website isn’t working quite right ATM. But I do have the FCC ID, which is HIDB70. It can be parsed into HID-B70, and the current Dash has a product code of HID-C10 (at right).
So I’m pretty sure it’s a new Dash. The model number is going to be B70, and I’m not sure when it will be released.
Update: One commenter pointed out that this could be the battery powered Dash he’d heard about. That would explaiin the B in B70, wouldn’t it?
The Sony Dash is an internet appliance. It’s not quite a tablet (no batteries) and it’s not an ebook reader. It’s designed to sit on your table, plugged in, and stay connected to your Wifi network. It doesn’t have a HD or much Flash storage, and it only runs simple apps (clock, facebook, email reader, etc).

Bah, you know how these companies work. The FCC filing pops up a day or a week after they announce their eBook device. Just as with the Nook Touch. Thanks for looking, tho. I wasn’t going to.
i bet the B in HID-B70 is for battery. the coming new dash is supposed to be cord free (so the C in HID-C10 is for ‘chord’? ha!) must be true.
That would make sense.
