Skytex unveiled another Android tablet this morning, and this time they downsized the screen & the price.
The Primer Pocket runs Android v2.2 on a 4.3″ screen. It has 4GB Flash, a microSD card slot, Wifi(n), and a g-sensor. The screen is multi-touch, but it’s also low-res (480×272). Unlike some of the small Android devices I’ve seen, the Pocket Primer has a built-in mic and speaker, as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Until I saw that screen resolution I was thrilled at the low price. But now I can tell why the price is low; I doubt the screen quality is all that great. But on the other hand, it is only selling for $99 brand new. I can live with a lot for a price that low.
Update: It showed up on the FCC website a few weeks after I posted this.

>>>480×272
No no no. If it had been at least 480×320, that would have been interesting to at least fondle.
It surely *is* 480×320, with 48px in the vertical being used by the Android status bar?
Maybe, but the Skytex website showed the lower resolution. Also, the screen looks to wide for it to have that extra 48 pixels. 480×320 would be more square.
BTW, those strange dimensions (480×272) are an old standard screen size and you will find them on a lot of DVD players. That’s the other reason i believe them.
I calculate 129 dpi as is, and 135 for Mike’s version.
On the other hand, my N810 is rather better:
800 × 480 resolution, 105 mm (4.13 in) diagonal, 88 pixels/cm, 225 ppi, 65536 colors (16-bit)
Then again, the N810 doesn’t support (and probably never will) Android… and it cost way more, back in the day.
