TouchPads now out of stock everywhere but Newegg, HP (and they’re offering a refund)

August 21st, 2011 by Nate Hoffelder · 2 Comments · Deals

The madness of yesterday’s TouchPad clearance sale isn’t quite over with just yet.

The HP TouchPad is still listed as being in stock at Newegg and HP (Sunday morning). In fact, Newegg have yet to reduce their prices and they’re still carrying the TP starting at $399. I would bet that the best way to track the launch of this sale would be to either keep an eye on Twitter or refesh that page every few minutes all day long.

Surprisingly, HP still have the 32GB model in stock on their website (at the time I wrote this). I suspect that’s because the site keeps crashing. They’ve been inundated with orders and traffic is probably far higher than their wildest dreams.

Update: I missed an important bit of news from yesterday. HP have started giving refunds for the TouchPad. Call and ask and you should be able to get back everything that you paid over the clearance price.

BTW, I was all set to announce this morning that Staples also had the TouchPad on sale but it turns out that they sold out before I even heard about it. You might want to check in-store but I don’t know if they’ll have any; my local store is out.

There was definitely something shady going on at the local Staples yesterday – they claimed they weren’t going to go on sale, but at the same time, they were all “sold out”, and this was before the frenzy or before they announced the price change (right when the doors opened).

The cat that ate the canary best describes the clerk’s expression.

Last night, and today, I saw three of the HP Touchpad-for-faces ads. I guess the tv stations figured that so long as the check cleared, they’d follow through on their commitment. Helluva shock for those who saw the ads and decided to go buy one tomorrow.
