I hav a couple new bits of info on theĀ TouchPad clearance frenzy.
HP just started sending out confirmation emails last night for orders that were placed on Saturday. I got an email early this morning telling me that my order was confirmed and it will ship soon. If you haven’t gotten an email, you might want to login to your customer account at HP and check on the status of your order. You’ll need the email and password you created when you placed the order
I want you to check because HP’s system was very broken this weekend. If you were like me you probably tried to place your order several times. It turns out that I placed a total of 5 orders, not 1. (They cancelled the other 4, unfortunately.) The multiple orders will likely be cancelled but you might want to plan for how you’ll pay off the credit card bill.
Newegg have also been sending out emails. They took a different approach to the clearance. Instead of placing all the TouchPads on sale, Newegg went back afterwards and offered partial refunds. If you bought a TouchPad from Newegg, go look for that email. Contact them if you didn’t receive one.

My order got canceled today.
Here is my letter from Barnes and Noble that I received today for trying to order from them a Touchpad and getting billed. At least they try to make things better…
Dear Tyler,
This past weekend, BN.com experienced a technical inventory error for the HP TouchPad combined with an unprecedented customer demand for its newly discounted price. Unfortunately, this generated more customer orders than we had inventory, resulting in our cancelling some customer orders, including yours, as we notified you earlier this week. If there was a pending authorization against your debit or credit card for the order, we have worked to quickly reverse that no later than today. You will not be charged for this order.
I want to take this opportunity to offer our sincere apology to you as a valued customer of BN.com. We care deeply about serving our customers, and in an expression of our commitment to you please accept the $20 Barnes & Noble eGift Card below for any inconvenience this may have caused.
The card can be used for any merchandise available at BN.com or in any of our bookstores.
We look forward to serving you again in the future.
Sincerely,
John Foley
President, BN.com
Since I have a Nook, the e card is a nice thing to get. If I didn’t have the Nook, not so much! It did get the pending authorization removed this morning.
I also tried to order one from a company called Zones.com that I found that were suppose to have them. All week, my order just says In Process and I have not been billed for it. I am not hoping for much there.
received a confirmation from HP that my order was place a few weeks ago. Today, got an email saying they ran out of touchpads!!!
Don’t lose hope:
