Daily Deal: Sony Reader PRS-350 now $85

October 14th, 2011 by Nate Hoffelder · 1 Comment · Daily deals

Sony decided to clear out their old 5″ ebook reader today. You can now find a refurbished Sony Reader Pocket Edition for $85 on Sony.com.  It’s a very nice deal and definitely worth a look.

This is one of the e-readers that Sony released last year. It has a 5″ Pearl E-ink screen and it was one of the first e-readers on the market that used Neonode’s zForce  IR touchscreen tech, which gave the 350 an unparalleled screen clarity. it ships with a stylus and 2GB Flash storage. But it also lacks a card slot, and that means that there’s a rather low limit for the number of books you can carry.

If you need a frame of reference, think of this as the poor man’s PRS-T1. It has the same touchscreen, much the same annotation abilities, but no Wifi. I had my hands on it last year and I have to say that I found the notetaking to be mindblowing.

Getting the notes off the 350 is another matter. Last I checked there were problems (here and here). but I believe the software has been updated since then so I will probably need to take another look.

I’ve owned a 350 since December 2010 and love it. It’s so small and handy that I carry it everywhere. I’ve debated upgrading to the new T1 but find no compelling reason to do so. I’ve commented here before that I simply use an eReader to read and for that the 350 is fantastic.
