Earlier today I noticed a spike in the number of page views for one of my reviews. I couldn’t figure out why the Skypad Alpha review was suddenly so popular, but it turns out that it’s on sale today. Groupon are selling the Skypad Alpha for a nice discount. They also have Skytex’s other android tablet on sale for another good price.
The Skypad Alpha is a 7″ Android tablet running Gingerbread. The overall performance was decent but not great, but it was somewhat better than you’d expect from a sub-$200 tablet. The touchscreen wasn’t the best quality and you don’t want to lose the stylus. But it is a cheap tablet and there’s something to be said for the price.
Specs
- Cortex A8 CPU
- 7″ (800×480)
- resistive touchscreen
- Wifi(n), Bluetooth
- 1.3MP camera
- microSD card slot
- 4GB Flash storage
I haven’t had my hands on the Primer Pocket, but I have read a review. There are a number of serious issues with this tablet that would discourage me from getting it. It has an odd screen resolution (480×272) and a MIPS CPU. The CPU will break some Android apps and the screen resolution will render others unusable (they expect a minimum of 480×320).
Specs
- 4.3″, (480×272) resistive touchscreen
- 600 MHz MIPS CPU
- Android 2.2 Froyo
- 4GB Flash storage (about 2.6GB free)
- Wifi (n)
- speaker mike
- microSD card slot
I’m not sure that I’d get either one, but these are some nice sale prices. You’re getting about $35 and $45 off retail.
