Donald Trump to Hold Ebook Signing on Wednesday

October 3rd, 2011 · autograph

I’m still looking into all the technical details but I wanted to give everyone a heads up that there is an online ebook signing event that you can watch.

Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trump will be signing virtual copies of their new book, Midas Touch – Why Some Entrepreneurs Get Rich – And Why Most Don’t, on 5 October on Facebook. It’s their second collaboration, and the Donald and his co-author will also give a talk on the book and answer questions about the book.

BookieJar now the First Self-Pub Platform to Offer Autographed Ebooks

September 17th, 2011 · autograph

BookieJar announced last night that they’ve taken the step that I’ve been waiting to see since May: readers can now use BookieJar to request an autograph from authors. I’m thrilled to see this move and in fact I’ve been wondering what took everyone so long.

When I attended BEA 2011 back in May I encountered a number of ebook autographing systems, including Autography, iDolVine, and more. While I don’t like some of the ways that the autographs are used, I did like the general idea. I also thought that this is one thing that everyone would add to their ebookstores in the not too distant future.

Evan Jacobs, the developer of the Kindlegraph ebook autographing system, is at TechCrunch Disrupt right now. While he is their he plans to show off a few new features that he’s added to Kindlegraph over the past few weeks.

Kindlegraph now offers new alternative to signed ebooks

July 22nd, 2011 · autograph

I’ve just been sent a link to a new autographing system like iDolVine or Autography, only this one is designed to just provide the autograph.

KindleGraph is the work of a developer by the name of Evan Jacobs, a former Amazon programmer. He built the service a couple months ago as part of the DocuSign hackathon, but it managed to have slipped under my radar until now.

The service is fairly straightforward. You can visit the site, choose a book or author you like, and then request an autograph. Unlike Autography, Kindlegraph doesn’t make a signed ebook. Instead, it offers authors the option of signing and sending a note to their fans.

Here’s a demo video that Evan posted which explains how it works:

I don’t want an autographed ebook

May 29th, 2011 · autograph, conferences & trade shows

The ebook signing systems I saw at BEA this past week got me thinking. It’s great that they’re being developed, but after thinking about it for a few days I realized I don’t want a signed ebook.

The concept of a signed book doesn’t translate well to a signed ebook. The symbolism doesn’t match up. A physical signature is a unique item that is limited to the one copy. A digital signature is  not not a singular unique item. If I have a digital signature for an author I can add that signature to all the author’s ebooks. It would take some work but it’s doable.

There’s a reason why Autography are getting all the press

May 28th, 2011 · autograph, conferences & trade shows

Autography is the most polished of the 3 ebook signing systems at BEA 2011, and it’s probably the most like to dominate the niche.

Right now the Autography system consists of an iPad and the Authography ebookstore. They’re working on an Android app, and they are also looking for partner ebookstores.

IdolVine are the haute couture of ebook signing

May 27th, 2011 · autograph, conferences & trade shows, hardware news

BEA is a few days gone, and I finally have time to get to writing about the booths I visited.

There were 3 ebook signing systems at BEA, and IdolVine were by far the biggest and the flashiest. It was also the most lavishly funded. They’d hired a number of authors to remotely sign autographs, and even had a few on site (that’s where I found Margaret Atwood). But this is not really an  ebook autographing system. It’s actually a lot more than that. IdolVine are trying to recreate the entire author/fan experience as it exists at cons.

There’s not 1 but 3 ebook signing systems here at BEA

May 25th, 2011 · autograph, Uncategorized

The internet connection is terrible here at the Javits center, So this is just a brief overview of the 3 different digital autograph systems.

Autography is probably the best well known, and I have to say it is the slickest. The system is based on iPad and  Android apps which are tied into Autography’s ebookstore.  They’re looking for partners, but right now autographs can only be integrated are integrated into (DRM-free) ebooks they sell.
