February 17th, 2012 · conferences & trade shows, contest

I’m in the middle of unpacking my gadget bag from TOC, and I just came cross the swag bag. Since I don’t need another laptop bag, I’m giving this one away.

This contest has the same rules as before. Leave a comment to enter the contest (US only); I’ll pick the winner Saturday afternoon.

How to Game A Popularity Contest

January 29th, 2012 · contest, opinion

Freescale is running a contest right now to pick their Smart Mobile Device Pundits for 2012. (Go vote for me!) I was bored that first evening, so I sat back and devoted some time to figuring out how to cheat.

This is a straightforward popularity contest. You visit the Freescale website and click a button. The 5 contestants who get the most clicks win the contest. That simplicity is what leaves the contest open to hacking.

CES Swag Giveaway: USB Backup Battery

January 24th, 2012 · contest

Have you ever had the battery on your gadget  run down while you’re far way from  charger? That’s what this is for.

Radio Shack was giving these out like candy. This model comes with  number of tips including the usual USB as well as Apple’s 30 pin connector. It was charged but not used. I had my own battery pack with me.

I’m having trouble finding  product listing, but it is similar to this one:

CES Swag Giveaway: Phantom iPhone 4S Case

Twitter Contest Winners Announced

September 22nd, 2011 · contest

So last week I launched a contest on Twitter in order to give away 8 of the little bouncy balls that I got from E-ink. A few minutes ago I received the list of winners from the (secret) judge.

The following list were chosen from the group of about 50  twitterati who 1, tweeted a link to the blog, and 2, mentioned my Twitter handle @ThDigitalReader. Those were the only 2 requirements for the contest.

BTW, I’m also going to run a contest on Facebook and it will start tomorrow.

Win an e-reader from E-ink

August 12th, 2011 · contest

The screen maker E-ink launched a contest yesterday on their Facebook page.

If you go like their page on Facebook you will be entered into a contest to win 1 of 5 ebook readers. They’ll be giving away an ebook reader each Thursday for the next five weeks.

There’s no word on what the devices will be, but that just makes it more interesting. If you win you might want to ask what models they have lying around the office (they get samples from partners sometimes). Talk them into giving you an  obscure ebook reader – something you can’t get where you live. (That is half the reason to enter this kind of contest.)

Sony, Adobe launch new contest – Adobe AIR App Challenge

July 13th, 2011 · contest, hardware news

Adobe launched a new contest today, and it’s going to be sponsored by Sony. I’m not a programmer anymore, but this is very cool.

They’re looking to jumpstart the development of AIR apps for Android tablets, in particular Sony’s 2 new Android tablets. This new contest marks an expansion of their long-standing relationship to deliver great content experiences for Sony’s gadgets. The goal is to drive the creation of innovative Android apps. Both companies will enable developers to tap into native S2, S1 capabilities and combine Adobe tech and HTML5 to deliver unique, high-performance mobile apps.
