webOS to Go Open Source by September 2012

January 25th, 2012 · TouchPad, webos

Today HP announced that they’re following through on their promise to open source webOS – maybe. They actually did 2 things today, and this marks a good first step towards that holy grail.

The first thing HP announced was that they are planning to release webOS under an open source license by September.  Once this happens we’re finally going to see third party webOS tablets, and I for one am looking forward to it.

HP Now Shipping More TouchPads

October 18th, 2011 · TouchPad

Last night HP sent me a shipping for the long delayed TouchPad order I placed with them (damn, all the way back in August). It looks like the long, drawn out death of the HP TouchPad is about to reach a conclusion this week.

October 4th, 2011 · hardware news, TouchPad

If you have a TouchPad then you’ve probably been following the ongoing effort to port Android to the tablet. The latest news you might have heard was that the Cyanogen Mod  team had a dual boot option in the works so you can use webOS or Android. Tonight I have something new.

Android on the TouchPad now A Step Closer to Reality

October 2nd, 2011 · hardware news, TouchPad

I’ve just come across a video that the Cyanogen Mod team shot a few days ago. Their continued toil is slowly turning this under-developed 10″ tablet into a premium Android tablet that it always could have been.

September 21st, 2011 · library ebooks, TouchPad

I’m sure you caught the news this morning that Amazon and OverDrive have started rolling out Kindle library ebook support today. They’ve already enabled about 60 libraries from OverDrive’s 11 thousand partner libraries here in the US, and more are being added by the minute. There’s one bit of news that probably got buried in the noise, and it could be critically important to TouchPad owner.

The library ebooks will work with all the Kindle apps, and according to my contact with OverDrive that includes the Kindle for TouchPad app. This is very big news because I have also been told that OverDrive are not planning an app for the TouchPad. [Read more →]

Four more free Apps for the TouchPad

September 8th, 2011 · apps, free ebooks, TouchPad

Did you get a chance to use either of the free TouchPad app promotions that HP ran a few weeks back? If you didn’t then I have some good news for you. I’ve just come across a post over on FatWallet with some promo codes. Someone, somewhere, is running a new promotion for the TouchPad.

The funny thing is, I don’t know where these codes are from. They worked for me, but I do not know who is sponsoring them, expiration date, or the limitations. Use them at your own risk.

Update: The codes come from the HP webOS newsletter. They’re US only, limited in supply., and appear to be open to everyone.
