The site 1SaleAday have Augen’s first e-reader on sale today. You have under 8 hours left to get it, so you might want to act fast. But I wouldn’t get it if I were you. AUGEN introduced this e-reader last summer, and at the time it was a decent e-reader. But it’s not so great [...]

Augen to release 2 new e-readers in April
January 8th, 2011 · 1 Comment · conferences & trade shows, hardware news
I just got back from the Augen booth and they told me about their new e-readers. They liked the idea behind the The Book (so do I), but they don’t like the hardware. So they’ve worked with Anjeeta, their manufacturing partner, to come up with 2 new The Book models. The current one is going [...]
New project site launched for Augen The Book e-reader
December 28th, 2010 · 3 Comments · hardware news
I’ve just heard over at MobileRead that someone is starting a project with the goal of hacking Augen’s e-reader. His long term goal is to be able to use The Book as a limited netbook computer. This could be shiny, but only if Augen follows through and hands over the source code (as required by [...]
Augen’s Espresso Firma showed up at Ceatec 2010
October 10th, 2010 · No Comments · hardware news
Akihabara News found this Android tablet at Ceatec this past week. It doesn’t quite look the same as the Espresso Firma I showed you a few days ago, but the resemblance is striking. Here’s how Akihabara News described this tablet: MUPEN of M707, an Android 2.1 table with a 7” resistive touch panel including the [...]

October 7th, 2010 · 4 Comments · hardware news
I think they may have learned from their mistake with Gentouch 78. Augen just announced that they will soon sell no less than 6 Android tablets ranging in size from 7″ to 10″, with retail from $199.99 to $599.99. All the tablets run v2.2 and all will support Adobe DE DRM.
Augen have no plans to drop “The Book”
October 6th, 2010 · No Comments · hardware news
There’s been a rumor going around the past few days that Augen are planning to abandon their $99 Kindle clone. I checked with Augen, and they denied it. The rumor is false, Augen will carry TheBook eReader through 2011. It didn’t really make much sense to drop it now; with its current price and abilities [...]

September 1st, 2010 · 2 Comments · hardware news
They posted a teaser on their website which hinted they were working on line of 7″ to 10″ tablets with capacitive multi touch screens. They’re planning to unveil the tablets at CES 2011. Update: Engadget scored a couple photos and a more complete statement: Augen is brewing a new exciting 7-10″ Gentouch Espresso line aggressively [...]
Smartbook Surfer really is the Augen Gentouch 78
August 13th, 2010 · 4 Comments · hardware news
You might recall from when I announced the Smartbook Surfer (a 7″ Android tablet) that I thought the Surfer looked a lot like the Augen Gentouch78 tablet. I just found an unboxing photo that confirmed my suspicion. If you look at the image you’ll see that the back of the Surfer looks exactly the same [...]
Augen Gentouch78 is about to lose Android Market, other Google apps
August 7th, 2010 · No Comments · hardware news
Augen just announced that the Gentouch78 would lose the Android market in the next update. They weren’t authorized to use the code. I don’t know if you’ve been following the story, but yesterday the GottaBeMobile blog broke the story that the Gentouch78 is using pirated software to provide access to the Android Market. Well, duh. [...]
Laptop Mag reviews the Augen Gentouch78
August 4th, 2010 · 2 Comments · hardware reviews
If you’re thinking about getting this tablet then this review will definitely make up your mind. Verdict The GenTouch78 was never going to be a powerhouse or the most desirable tablet this side of the iPad, but even at $149 it’s a waste of money. The Archos 7 Home Tablet, which was no prize in [...]
