Leo Benedictus writes in Prospect Magazine about the closing of libraries in England and the rise of e-reading. Salient quote: The talk of a future in which children cannot access books is also not just wrong, but backwards. Mirasol, Pocketbook, and e-readers
April 1st, 2011 · 3 Comments · opinion
I’m going to be in NYC for a conference next week. I noticed while laying pout my schedule earlier that Qualcomm have a booth at the conference, and they also have a senior person as a guest speaker on Wednesday. This isn’t unusual, actually, and I doubt that Qualcomm will announce the new e-reader this [...]

Notebook Italia got their hands on both of the new Asus e-readers when they were at CeBIT a couple weeks ago. This is the first video I’ve seen that compared the 2, and the differences are fascinating. I especially like this photo they took shoiwng the edges of the 2 gadgets. It really brings the [...]

E-readers – one of Borders’ many misteps
February 26th, 2011 · 7 Comments · borders, hardware news
I finally had a chance to go to the nearest closing Borders today. It’s down in Stafford VA, which is too far for me to drive most of the time. I expected to see the usual chaos of a closing store: long lines, books dumped wherever, shelved books in disarray. But what I didn’t expect [...]

Gmini announced 3 new e-readers this week. One will have a Sipix screen, and the other 2 will have E-ink screens. First up [...]

February 1st, 2011 · 3 Comments · hardware news
A reader tipped me to a a couple new e-readers from Prestigio. Well, they’re new to Prestigio, but I’ve seen one before and I’ve had my hands on the other. First up is the PER5162. You might recognize this Kindle clone; I believe it’s the same hardware as the Qumo Libro I showed you last [...]

Following on the heels of the Fnac report on Saturday, Johannes of lesen.net reported that Pocketbook sold nearly 10, 000 e-readers in Germany during the past 2 months of 2010. Yikes. That’s not much, considering that Pocketbook have said they have a strong position in Europe.
