Google are running what I assume has to be some kind of viral ad campaign (it worked). @cdcasey just got these bookmarks from them last night. There are 4 of them, and what’s most interesting is what they don’t say. 3 reference a tablet, laptop, and smartphone, but there’s no mention of an e-reader. I [...]

Google ebookstore now live in the Android Market
February 24th, 2011 · 3 Comments · ebookstore news
A new section of the Android Market is now up and running at: market.android.com/books. I’m not completely sure that’s the Google Ebookstore, but I don’t see what else it could be. Some titles have previews available, and all the ones I checked require Android v2.1. They don’t appear to be apps; there’s even a link [...]

February 8th, 2011 · 1 Comment · humor
Jules Verne was born today in 1828, and to celebrate his birthday today’s Google Doodle is based on 20,000 Leagues under the Sea. This one isn’t just an image. If you grab the joystick on the right with your mouse you can maneuver the little window around. It will be like you’re looking out the [...]
Piracy is Good – just ask Google
January 28th, 2011 · 6 Comments · opinion
A couple days ago Google started censoring the suggested search terms in their search engine. Do you know how you can type a few letters and Google will guess at words you’re about to type? Google will no longer suggest words like bittorrent, rapidshare, utorrent, etc. This censorship inspired me to pull out my notes [...]
Google bought ETI!
January 12th, 2011 · 4 Comments · hardware news
Google just bought Ebook Technologies Inc. Now that was a smooth move. This is a quiet little company that had been involved in ebooks since before the industry existed. I’m not kidding either. Garth Conboy, President and co-founder of ETI, used to run the Gemstar eBook Group (before Gemstar went bankrupt). He was even part [...]

The Wall Street Journal have a story this morning about Google once again wooing publishers. Google is trying to drum [...]

Underwhelmed by Google’s eBookstore
December 13th, 2010 · No Comments · opinion
For the past 18 months or so, like many of you, I’ve been anxiously awaiting Google’s ebookstore launch. Originally referred to as Google Editions, the service finally arrived this week with the name Google eBookstore. Now that I’ve had some time to tour the store and download some sample content, I have one question: [...]

HOW TO: Access the Google eBookstore Internationally (sadly, there’s a catch)
December 8th, 2010 · No Comments · tips and tricks
For those of you not residing in the United States, you may remember yesterday kicking the cat while bloggers around the world were flipping (or not) over the Google eBookstore. Or the dog. Or burning an effigy of Sergey Brin (more pet-friendly). Yes, as usual, Google have launched something the world wants to use, excluding 95% of [...]
