Australian newspapers are reporting today the long-awaited launch of the Apple iBookstore in Australia. Nearly 10,000 Smashwords ebooks are included in the launch.

Apart from a bland smattering of out-of-copyright offerings, the Australian iteration of Apple’s iBookstore has been a wasteland, but that all changes today, sort of. Apple is trumpeting that thousands of local titles are now available, from “both major and independent publishers, including Macmillan, Hachette, Hardie Grant, HarperCollins, Murdoch and Wiley”.

First enhanced fiction ebook now in iBookstore (video)

I’ve just heard via Twitter and Liz Castro’s blog that the first fiction ebook with video has been uploaded to the iBookstore. The title is Awkward 2, and it was created by the indie publisher Awkward Press. It’s a collection of short stories, and the videos are rather odd. Here’s one:
