The satirical website NewsBiscuit has uncovered details on the next generation of the Amazon Kindle, currently named the Kindle DE. We all know someone who loves the physical features of paper books, right? Well, that’s the person that Amazon designed the Kindle DE for. This model departs from the crisp, clean lines of the K3 [...]

Kindle Lessons Learned After a Year Away
April 19th, 2011 · 8 Comments · opinion
I’m glad I jumped back into the Kindle market. My wifi-only Kindle is getting almost as much use as my iPad. I recently wrote a post about lessons learned the first year with that device. I figured I ought to do something similar covering lessons learned after a year away from the Kindle:
Kindle, Audible, and the real story from this past week
March 26th, 2011 · 2 Comments · opinion
In this post I’m planning to show you the man behind the curtain. I’m hoping to give you a better understanding of what I can see, both as a blogger and as someone who watches the media. So the hot story this past week was about how the Kindle Wifi could now download Audible audiobooks [...]
The hardware blind spot – Why Amazon probably isn’t working on a Kindle Android tablet
March 21st, 2011 · 7 Comments · opinion
The Kindle Android rumors surfaced again on Friday. The NY Times noticed that Amazon are hiring Android developers at Lab126 (they develop the Kindle hardware and apps) and jumped to the obvious conclusion. Amazon must be working on a Kindle that runs Android, and that this new device could have a color screen. There are [...]

Kindle gets a Notepad app
March 17th, 2011 · 6 Comments · kindle app
It’s a pretty good one, too. Have you ever used one of the Notepad ebooks on the Kindle? If not, you can make one by creating an empty ebook and then adding typed notes. They never really worked well for me, which is why I’m glad to finally get a real notepad app. Late last [...]

Amazon are having a sale this week, and I have to say I’m a little tempted. You can now get any of 9 Kindle apps for under a buck. I’m not sure I want to play most of these, but at this price I’m willing to experiment. The sale runs until 27 March. SCRABBLE EA [...]

A new update for the Kindle app showed up in iTunes today. The only change is a minor bug fix from the previous version. But it is interesting that Apple continue to allow the app to be updated. it looks like we really may see this come to a showdown in June. iTunes
The free Kindle is here

But Amazon aren’t the one giving it away. For the longest time I’ve said that Amazon wouldn’t give away the Kindle and so far I’ve been right.TBF, every time I’ve argued against it, one or more commenters have suggested that it would be “given away” under a cell phone style monthly contract. That is what’s [...]
Apple will cripple the Kindle web app
March 15th, 2011 · 3 Comments · opinion
If you’ve been following the Apple in-app purchase fracas of late, then you might know that a log of people are hoping that web apps will be able to get around the need to pay Apple’s vig. If not, then let me explain. The way a web app works is that it uses HTLM5 to [...]
