Kobo have announced a new version of their Android reading app. It sounds like they’ve added quite a few interesting features: Sharing Passages & Notes to Facebook Brightness and Rotation Lock Controls Share a Book Recommendation to Facebook Now if only they would let me download it from some place other than the Android Market. [...]

March 8th, 2011 · No Comments · ebookstore news, hardware news
Kobo announced today that they had just completed a Series C round of financing led by Fidelity Investments. They didn’t discuss the amount raised, however, but the press release did say that the 2 of the 4 owners of Kobo, Indigo and Cheung Kong Holdings, invested more capital in the company. As for the other [...]
Kobo iOS app updated
March 1st, 2011 · No Comments · software news
Michael Tamblyn just announced on the Kobo blog that Kobo’s iOS app hasn’t yet been pulled from iTunes. I kid. The new version is a minor update which does not include the in-app purchase option. You might be wondering why Apple allowed this update (without the IAP), but blocked the Sony app. I’m not sure [...]
Kobo app now out for the BlackBerry
February 15th, 2011 · 4 Comments · software news
Update: Apparently I misread the Kobo blog post, because based on the reviews this app has been available since at least March 2010. Borders sent out an email this morning announcing that the $99 sale price for the Kobo Wifi is now permanent. Unfortunately for anyone not in the US, no other retailer has followed suit. Chapters are selling it for $150 CAD, and Borders AU have it listed for $180 AUD. Yep, the US price is almost [...]

Kobo just announced an update to the Kobo iPhone app. The new version will now have all the really neat features that the iPad got some time back. Chris reviewed the iPad app about a month ago, and I think he wanted to have its baby. Kidding aside, I was really jealous of iPad owners [...]

The Kobo e-reader made a guest appearance on The Office last night. You can catch the episode on Hulu, and it’s first onscreen at about 10:03. In the episode, one of the characters decides he wants to read more this year. He is introduced to the Kobo on a trip to a bookstore. While his [...]
How to find the Easter egg in the Kobo iPad app
January 19th, 2011 · 1 Comment · hardware rumors
I just came across one of Mike Cane’s old posts. He had found what might be an Easter egg in the Kobo iPad app. I’ve done some Googling, and I can’t find instructions on how to trigger the egg. It would be so cool if this were actually true. Does anyone know? Update: I found [...]
The original Kobo e-reader has been discontinued
January 15th, 2011 · 2 Comments · hardware news
I heard a rumor this week that the original (Wifi-less) Kobo e-reader was no longer available. I’ve been poking at this for a couple days now and I still can’t with absolute certainty that it’s been retired. Infact, just yesterday Jason Gamblen of Kobo denied the rumor. But I’m pretty sure it’s true.
