There’s been a surge in the Amazon tablet rumors over the past few days. The most recent rumor is that Amazon will stream content to the tablet. This rumor is actually half true. Amazon will be streaming content, but there is no tablet involved. You’re not going to believe this, and I really hope you’re [...]

I still don’t believe Amazon are working on a tablet
April 21st, 2011 · 20 Comments · opinion
So the “Amazon tablet” rumors reach a fever pitch today with one of the bloggers with gdgt posting a long explanation of why he thinks Samsung are building the Amazon tablet. I respect his opinion and his right to argue a position that has so little factual basis. I’ve done the same before, so I [...]
Franklin to drop support for the eBookMan on April 30th
April 15th, 2011 · 4 Comments · hardware news
Much to my surprise, Franklin has been quietly supporting its e-rader, the eBookMan, for the past 12 years. It will stop supporting the eBookMan by the end of April. On Words & eBooks: What Does It Take?
April 11th, 2011 · 11 Comments · opinion

That post has gotten several interesting comments, and one in particular inspired me to respond with this post. The reader suggested that I just need time to learn how iOS does things. While [...]
Reading Apps on a Win7 tablet: a brief roundup
March 29th, 2011 · 5 Comments · software reviews
I’ve been playing with my Inspiron Duo for the past few days, and I thought I’d take a few minutes to discuss which reading apps worked well on the touch screen. This is just an overview of the apps; some won’t need any more details and the ones that do will be covered in depth [...]
Borders Aren’t Just Cutting Back on Stores
March 28th, 2011 · 4 Comments · borders, hardware news
They’ve also reduced the number of e-readers they sell. Borders launched their Area-e, the store department where they promote eBooks and e-readers, last year with the stated goal of having the broadest selection of e-readers anywhere in the US. There was talk of having 10 or more models on display for customers to try. Sidenote: [...]
I was right: The funds for a 1:1 iPad program don’t exist
March 27th, 2011 · 8 Comments · opinion
I’ve written posts before objecting to public schools starting iPad pilot programs. My main argument was that they don’t have the funds to follow through and give every student an iPad. Well, yesterday I came across a school district outside of Minneapolis that just proved me right.
