New Pandigital Novel shows up on QVC

March 9th, 2011 · 1 Comment · hardware news

Pandigital decided to surprise us today with a new Android tablet. Apparently they decided there weren’t enough Novel tablets out there, so they released this one. This Novel is black, obviously, but if you look closely you’ll see that the hardware looks a lot like the white Novel. In fact, I did a little digging [...]

I got Screwed by Pandigital Customer Service

February 14th, 2011 · 14 Comments · opinion

A couple weeks ago I wrote a post complaining about the customer service that Pandigital didn’t provide for my broken 9″ Pandigital Novel. Several people have asked me for an update, which I’m now going to provide. I had waited on the post so I could write that the replacement had arrived, and the matter [...]

New firmware for the (white) Pandigital Novel

January 26th, 2011 · 35 Comments · hardware news

This firmware came out a couple weeks ago, but I was waiting for a friend to confirm some details. She has. (Thanks, Ellen.) You might recall that during CES I mentioned that Pandigital planned to start using an open firmware for all versions of the Novel e-reader/tablet. I also mentioned that they had a retail [...]

So you need Pandigital to help with your e-reader? Fuhgeddaboudit

January 25th, 2011 · 15 Comments · opinion

My 9″ Pandigital Novel died in Las Vegas.  I didn’t break it or drop it, it just died. This was one of the many minor irritations that made the trip less than fun, but never mind that.  I’m here to complain about getting the gadget repaired. Late last Sunday night I filled out the contact [...]

January 20th, 2011 · 111 Comments · firmware update

Pandigital recently uploaded a new firmware for the black Novel. It’s dated 14 January. I’ve downloaded and installed it. It’s still based on v1.5 and still uses the B&N ebookstore, but on the plus side the new firmware turned the Novel from an e-reader into a tablet. With this firmware you can now install apps without [...]

Kohl’s having a clearance sale on Pandigital Novels ?

January 5th, 2011 · 1 Comment · hardware news

I just found the following post over at MobileRead. I haven’t been able to confirm the sale (I’m at CES at the moment) but I think it’s worth a trip to your local Kohl’s just to see if it’s true. These are great prices. They are selling off their ereaders, the main one is the [...]

Pandigital 9″ Novel gets 3G, keeps same stupid name

January 4th, 2011 · 6 Comments · hardware news

Oy. You’d think they would have started giving the various models actual names by now. But no. Let the confusion continue. I believe this is the same 9″ tablet that I’m carrying to CES (only with new hardware). The price for te 3G model is $280. Connectivity is through ATT and there’s no word yet [...]

New firmwares available for Pandigital Novel e-reader

December 29th, 2010 · No Comments · hardware news

I just came across a thread over at MobileRead.  One MobileRead member went through the effort to find links to firmwares for all the different versions of this e-reader made by BenQ. BTW, I’m talking about the Pantigital Novel with a 6″ Sipix screen, not the LCD models. If you’re confused by the naming convention, [...]

So which Pandigital Novel do you have ?

December 25th, 2010 · 7 Comments · tips and tricks

I’ve come across a lot of confusion lately about Pandigital’s line of e-readers/tablets/what-have-you. I decided it was past time that I wrote out a careful explanation about some of the problems Novel owners have had.  There are about 5 different questions that have come up and they all have the same cause. You see, the [...]
