Giving The Reader Their Due

March 7th, 2011 · 2 Comments · opinion

With the tidal wave of talk about eBooks this past week, there has been a good amount of writing about the reader and how these changes would affect them from the vantage of the library. However, I haven’t seen much actual talk to a reader regarding these changes. It’s been in the background of my [...]

More lackluster ebook efforts from Microsoft

March 3rd, 2011 · 2 Comments · software news

I’ve just come across a new reading app for the Zune HD called Zune Reader. What, didn’t you know they had one? I’m not surprised; I can’t find a press release, official announcement or any solid info. There’s not even any useful detail in the product listing in the Zune Marketplace (that place is crap). The Atavist Reader & Authoring Tools

February 21st, 2011 · 1 Comment · software reviews

I’ve just been told that the Sony Reader app is now listed in the Android Market. It supports Epub and PDF ebooks purchased form the Sony Ebookstore, and it requires Android v2.2. That last detail is kinda funny considering that all of Sony’s Android phones run v2.1 (according to my tipster). Here’s the description from [...]

iFlow reader takes reading down the wrong path

December 27th, 2010 · 8 Comments · software reviews

iFlow Reader is getting a lot of attention today. This is a new reading app for iOS, with different versions for iPhone and iPad. While it comes with a good set of reading options, iFlow’s one big pitch point is that it abandons page turns in favor of scrolling. This is so not a good [...]
