April 28th, 2011 · 1 Comment · apps

A new iPad app was announced today that’s going change the way you collaborate. *openmargin has a number of rather interesting features. It seems to offer a lot of what I’ve wanted in terms of sharing. But the app isn’t actually available yet. Until it is, all I have to tide you over is this [...]

How to Read this blog

April 24th, 2011 · No Comments · blog maintenance

At long last I have updated the RSS feed for this blog. I’d really appreciate it if people could switch over to the new RSS feed. TDR had a different name when I started it back in January 2010. When I changed the name of the blog (and the website address) I didn’t bother changing [...]

April 16th, 2011 · 16 Comments · opinion

The Entourage Pocket Edge has been on sale this past week on Amazon for half off, and I can never resist a sale. So I bought one. This is Entourage’s second, smaller dual screen netbook with 6″ E-ink screen and a 7″ LCd screen. It’s a lot smaller and light than the original and yet [...]

The folks at Android Police spent much of last week putting together a truly impressive practical joke. the combined plausible pictures, detailed tech specs, and even a faked handout from Amazon. I nearly fell for it, it’s that good. i also know a [...]

On Adapting to new systems

April 4th, 2011 · 7 Comments · opinion

So yesterday I wrote a post about why I brought my Win7 convertible with me but not my iPad or android tablet.  That post has gotten several interesting comments, and one in particular inspired me to respond with this post. The reader suggested that I just need time to learn how iOS does things. While [...]

I’m not taking my iPad or Android tablet to the conference

April 3rd, 2011 · 13 Comments · opinion

I’m traveling top NYC  this afternoon for a conference and I finally decided on what gadgets I’m going to bring. Due to weight (and the fact that I don’t want to leave electronics in my hotel room), I had to pick between a Win7 tablet convertible or (as a pair) my iPad and Viewsonic gTablet. [...]

I was right: The funds for a 1:1 iPad program don’t exist

March 27th, 2011 · 8 Comments · opinion

I’ve written posts before objecting to public schools starting iPad pilot programs. My main argument was that they don’t have the funds to follow through and give every student an iPad. Well, yesterday I came across a school district outside of Minneapolis that just proved me right.
