I’m glad I jumped back into the Kindle market. My wifi-only Kindle is getting almost as much use as my iPad. I recently wrote a post about lessons learned the first year with that device. I figured I ought to do something similar covering lessons learned after a year away from the Kindle:

iPad Lessons Learned After One Year
April 11th, 2011 · 10 Comments · Uncategorized
Was it really a year ago that I got up at the crack of dawn, stood in line at the local Apple store and left with my new favorite gadget, a 32G wifi-only iPad? The last 12 months have been an interesting period and I thought it would be fun to share the iPad lessons [...]
RedGroup had been trying to sell Whitcoulls for the past year
March 17th, 2011 · No Comments · ebookstore news, redgroup
Several new details have come to light since I last wrote about RedGroup Retail bankruptcy. Earlier this week the Australian Federal Court granted the Administrators for RedGroup Retail more time before they have to meet with RedGroup’s creditors. This is good; the pitchforks will be sharper and there will be more torches when the former [...]

Amazon sold more ebooks last year than paperbacks
January 27th, 2011 · 7 Comments · Uncategorized
Amazon released their Q4 statement today, and it was a doozy. Amazon sold 115 ebooks last year for every 100 paperbacks. Ad they sold 3 times as many ebooks as they did hardbacks. What’s even better is that those numbers cover all of 2010, not just this last quarter. Amazon are also reporting that the [...]

HP plan to ship Dick Tracy style watch prototypes by end of year
January 17th, 2011 · No Comments · hardware news
But actual production won’t begin for another couple years according to Carl Taussig, the Director of the Information Surfaces Lab at HP. This piece of news isn’t actually new. You might recall that back in September I found a video of Dr. Taussig demonstrating HP’s new screen tech at Stanford. Dr. Taussig mentions the prototypes [...]

December 29th, 2010 · 10 Comments · opinion
Amazon is probably the largest bookseller, dollar-wise, in America and the world. Certainly, it is the largest ebook seller in America. And Amazon has spread its tentacles so that it is not only a bookseller, but it competes with publishers as a publisher.

December 3rd, 2010 · No Comments · hardware news
That’s what Digitimes are reporting: Inventec is expected to ship over one million Nook Color touch-controlled e-book readers to Barnes & Noble by year-end 2010. The company is also expected to land orders for 6-7 million Palm WebOS-based tablet telecommunication devices from Hewlett-Packard (HP) in 2011, according to industry sources. I don’t like news reports [...]
Amazon to open German ebookstore next year?
November 9th, 2010 · 5 Comments · ebookstore news
Well, yeah. You could pretty much assume that Amazon were going to open ebookstores on all their country specific sites (UK, France, Germany); the only question was when. The Bookseller are reporting on a story that hit the German blogs yesterday. Again, it’s not much of a story. Germany could become the next market outside [...]

October 12th, 2010 · 5 Comments · ebookstore news
WH Smith launched their iPad app today. You have the option of buying and downloading their selection of 25,000 ebooks. But how much is the app costing them? I have a source who gave me a heads up on the launch, and also told me that: Sources report that … annual Adobe fees to be [...]
